The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) denounces the murder of a media worker in Mogadishu.
Mohamed Omar Mohamed, known Amaar, an advertising/marketing staffer of Radio Dalsan, was yesterday afternoon (21 April 2014) murdered in Bakara Market after he was reportedly shot six times. Killers escaped from the scene.
“We denounce the murder of Mohamed Omar Mohamed and call upon the authorities to carry out urgent investigations and shed light on the motives behind this killing and bring perpetrators into justice,” said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General.
The motive and culprits of the murder were not officially stated. Mohamed Omar Mohamed has been an activist at local Youth Organisation. It is not immediately evident that the killing is related to his media work. No one claimed the responsibility of this crime.
