On 23 June 2025, journalist Abdirisaq Qasim was arrested in Berbera after publishing a report on a Member of Parliament’s alleged conflict of interest. He was later transferred to Hargeisa, where he remained in detention. He was held for two days and released on 25 June 2025 without any formal charges or legal proceedings.
