On 18 March 2025, Ali Abdullahi Hussien (Suheyfa), a reporter with Risaala Radio and TV, was taken into detention while carrying out his professional duties after a bomb explosion rocked Hamar Jajab district, Mogadishu. The explosion, which was aimed at President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy, was a critical event, and Ali was on-site to cover the incident and deliver the news to the public. Instead of being permitted to continue his reporting, he was apprehended by police officers acting under the orders of Banadir Police Commissioner Moallim Mahdi. His journalistic work was cut short as he was detained along with other reporters. This unwarranted detention underscores the ongoing obstacles and risks faced by journalists in Somalia when attempting to report without interference.
