On 17 December 2025, journalist Abdullahi Abdi Hersi of Somali Cable TV was arrested and detained by Galmudug police under the authority of the Dhusamareb district administration. The arrest followed his interview with a Galmudug Member of Parliament, in which the MP openly criticized the district authorities for failing to address the deteriorating security situation in Dhusamareb city. The detention occurred amid preparations for a major political and civic event in the district, raising concerns about the timing and motives behind the arrest. After four days in custody, Abdullahi Abdi Hersi was released on 22nd December 2025 without any formal charges.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges to press freedom in the region and underscores the need for authorities to respect the rights of journalists to report and comment on matters of public interest without fear of arbitrary detention or intimidation.
