On Saturday, 27th September 2025, at approximately 8:00 AM, four journalists from respected media outlets were briefly detained, subjected to threats by the Somaliland Police Forces in Erigavo, Sanag Region, Somaliland. The journalists were conducting a professional interview with Ismail Duale Yusuf, the Minister of Education and Science of Somaliland, regarding the closure of several public schools in the region due to insufficient funds for staff salaries and operational costs.

The detained journalists represented the following media outlets:

 SABAR Radio & TV:

  1. Said Muse Farah (Qurbawi) Establisher of Sabar Radio & Tv
  2. Said Abdirahman Hussein (Sedri).

SBC TV:

  1. Ibrahim Abdi Adan (Murti).

Kalsan TV:

  1. Mohamed Yusuf Ali (Ilkacase).

The journalists were arrested and held without formal charges. During their detention, they faced severe threats coupled with intense pressure to remain silent. This disturbing incident contradicts the recent promises made by President Irro of Somaliland state, who assured the protection of journalists’ rights in Somaliland. Despite such assurances, the actions of the Somaliland authorities seems to undermine these commitments, as this attack is part of a growing pattern of media suppression.
