On 14 June 2026, online journalist Mohamed Abdinasir Hussein, widely known as Nagashe, was arrested by Puntland Police Forces in Qardho district, Bari region of Puntland state of Somalia.

The arrest was reportedly linked to his coverage of the deteriorating security situation in Qardho. Days before his detention, he had published a report on his Facebook page highlighting concerns raised by local traders over increasing youth gang activity, which had reportedly forced many businesses to close earlier evening than usual.

According to the information received, Puntland police arrested Nagashe while he was at a café in Qardho. He was taken to Qardho Police Station for processing before being transferred to the town’s main prison, where he remained in custody. After spending four days in custody, Mohamed Abdinasir Hussein (Nagashe) was released from detention on 18 June 2026.
