Hamdi Hassan Ahmed

Home ยป Journalists

On 18 March 2025, Hamdi Hassan Ahmed, a journalist with Risaala Radio and TV, was taken into custody while carrying out her duties as a journalist following a bomb explosion in Hamar Jajab district, Mogadishu. The blast, which targeted the convoy of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was a significant event, and Hamdi was on the scene to report the incident and inform the public. Instead of being allowed to do her work, she was detained by police officers under the direction of Banadir Police Commissioner Moallim Mahdi. Her journalistic efforts were interrupted as she was apprehended alongside other reporters. This unjustified detention highlights the challenges and risks that journalists face in Somalia when trying to report freely and without interference.
