On 18 December 2025, independent journalist Abdullahi Abdikadir Nor (Wadani) was arrested and detained in Dhusamareb District. His arrest appeared to be linked to his reporting on Abdullahi Abdi Hersi (Qorshe), who had been detained a day earlier after interviewing a state MP that criticised the district authorities, including their handling of security issues. Wadani was held in custody for three days. This arrest occurred during a politically sensitive period, just before a major political and civic event. He was released on 22 December 2025 without any formal charges.
