Journalist briefly detained at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Banadir, Somalia

On 25 October, Abdi Hafid Nor, a Somali Cable TV journalist, was briefly detained by police at Aden Adde International Airport while on his way to the Bakool region for journalistic work. Abdi Hafid reported that he was traveling with government officials, including Minister of Ports Abdulkadir Mohamed Nor, when airport police stopped him and took him to the airport police station. Abdi stated that officers told him the detention was ordered by the Banadir Regional Police Commander, Moallim Mahdi Omar, due to his reporting on the activities of the Somali opposition coalition in Mogadishu. He was held in custody for one hour at Aden Adde International Airport before being released and allowed to continue his journey with the minister.
