On 29 December 2025, journalist Ali Mohamed Dirie, of Kalsan TV was arrested by Jubbaland Intelligence officers (JISA) in Dolow town, Gedo region, Somalia, at around 11:00 a.m., while he was sitting at a coffee shop. The arrest was carried out on the orders of Mohamed Hassan Sangub, Head of JISA in Dolow, in apparent retaliation for Ali’s reporting on the recent tensions and clashes between Jubbaland State and the Federal Government of Somalia in Baled-Hawo town. During the arrest, officers forcibly confiscated his smartphone and AirPods and transferred him to a detention facility, where he was held in a dark container cell, forced to remain only in his underwear, and denied food, drinking water, access to prayer, toilet facilities and basic hygiene. After 24 hours of detention, authorities attempted to pressure the journalist to abandon neutral reporting and align his coverage with Jubbaland authorities, warning that he would not be allowed to operate in Dolow if he refused the deal. Ali rejected these demands and was released on 30 December 2025 following the intervention of Dolow clan elders.
