On 18 March 2025, Liban Abdullahi Hussein, a journalist with Risaala Radio and TV, was taken into custody while carrying out his duties as a reporter following a bomb explosion in Hamar Jajab district, Mogadishu. The explosion, which targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy, was a significant event, and Liban was present to cover the incident and inform the public. Instead of being allowed to continue his journalistic work, he was detained by police officers following orders from Banadir Police Commissioner Moallim Mahdi. His efforts to report were abruptly halted as he was taken into custody along with other journalists. This unjust detention highlights the ongoing dangers and challenges that journalists in Somalia face when trying to report freely without interference.
