On 18 March 2025, Mohamed Abukar Mohamed, a freelance journalist known as Dabaashe, tragically lost his life in a bomb explosion in Hamar Jajab district, Mogadishu. The explosion targeted a convoy carrying President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud but caused widespread destruction, including the building where Mohamed was located. The attack, claimed by Al-Shabaab, killed Mohamed and several civilians. He had worked recently with Sirta TV and previously with Risaala Radio and TV. His death marks the first journalist killed in Somalia in 2025. This tragic event underscores the dangers Somali journalists face while performing their vital duties in conflict zones.
