On 18 March 2025, Mohamed Said Nor, a journalist with Risaala Radio and TV, was detained while fulfilling his role as a journalist in the wake of a bomb explosion in Hamar Jajab district, Mogadishu. The explosion, which targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy, was a major event, and Mohamed Said was there to report on it — to bring the truth to the public. Rather than being supported in his role, he was detained by police officers acting on the orders of Banadir Police Commissioner Moallim Mahdi. His work was forcibly halted as he was taken into custody along with other journalists. This unwarranted detention only underscored the obstacles journalists face in Somalia.
