On 22nd July, Mohamud Nadif Shire, an independent journalist, was detained and interrogated for four hours by the Puntland Intelligence Security Agency (PISA) in Bassaso town, Puntland, Somalia. The interrogation was notably severe, focusing on his personal background, life and career, with particular emphasis on questions related to terrorism. No issues concerning his professional work as a journalist were raised during the questioning period.

Following the interrogation, Mohamud Nadif Shire was informed that he is under investigation and is required to report to the nearest Puntland Intelligence Security Agency (PISA) office once a week. Based on conversations with Nadiif, this incident appears to be an attempt to intimidate and silence independent media outlets committed to fair and balanced news coverage.
