On 2nd  November 2025, six local journalists were briefly detained by Somali police in Wadajir District, Mogadishu, while attempting to report on the shooting of a young student, allegedly killed by an armed National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) soldier during an exchange of gunfire. The journalists had arrived at the scene to cover the incident when police intervened.

According to the journalists, their arrest was ordered by Banadir Regional Police Commander Moalim Mahdi before they could conduct interviews or record footage. The detention disrupted their reporting activities, but they were held for approximately one hour at Wadajir Police Station before being released later the same day. The detained journalists are:

  2. Abdi Khani Said Mohamed – Cameraman, Hirasho TV

  5. Mohamed Abdi Hassan – Reporter, M24 TV
