On 9 September 2026, Hassan Saleban Harun (Gallaydh), journalist and founder of Gallaydh TV, was arrested by Somaliland Police in Gebiley while covering a university graduation ceremony. Hassan Gallaydh was in Gebiley on a journalistic assignment when police officers arrested him during the event. He was subsequently transferred to Hargeisa and held at the Somaliland Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Authorities did not initially provide a reason for his arrest. However, according to local journalists, the arrest may have been connected to comments Hassan Gallaydh made during a journalists’ protest in Hargeisa on 7 September, where he called for the release of detained journalist Abdiqani Hussein Abokor. His arrest therefore occurred shortly after he publicly spoke about the detention of another journalist. After three full days in custody, journalist Hassan was released on 12 September 2026 without due process.
