On Tuesday, 5 August 2025, independent journalist Ahmed Mohamoud Dool was arrested by Somaliland Police in Hargeisa, Somaliland following a Facebook post he published on his personal Facebook account. According to journalists familiar with the case, he was taken into custody and remained detained without any formal charges. He was remanded three times despite no evidence being presented, and colleagues reported that his detention took place without due process or appearance before a competent court.

Ahmed Mohamoud Dool was held in custody for 28 days nearly a month during which authorities failed to produce any evidence to justify his detention. He was subsequently released on 3 September 2025.
