On 1st July 2025, Yasir Ahmed Abdillahi, an independent journalist, was arrested in Hargeisa, Somaliland, after he posted a Facebook comment criticising the reception given to Qatari officials during the President of Somaliland’s recent visit to Doha. The authorities reportedly viewed his post as undermining the government’s diplomatic efforts. Yasir was held for four days in custody and released on 5th July 2025.
